My DARPA experience seems to be paying off as I eye the growing commuter market. We are excited to share this concept visualization of a Passenger Monocoque Circular Quad—a fresh perspective on personal aerial transport. In the rapidly evolving world of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and eVTOLs, complexity is often the enemy of progress. This concept embraces radical simplicity. The Concept: Unlike traditional multi-rotors that bolt arms onto a central fuselage, this vehicle utilizes a single monocoque structural ring. The entire airframe is the structure. The passenger sits securely within the central annulus, protected by the surrounding airframe, while four symmetrically embedded propellers provide lift. Why it matters for the daily commute: ✅ Safety through Geometry: The circular frame inherently shrouds the propellers, significantly increasing safety for ground operations and urban environments compared to exposed-blade designs. ✅ True VTOL Utility: The compact, balanced footprint is ideal for rooftop landings and tight urban vertiports, bypassing ground traffic entirely. ✅ Structural Efficiency: By integrating the skin and chassis into one continuous part, we reduce part count, potential failure points, and manufacturing complexity. 🚀 The Game Changer: Scalability via Variable-Driven Design The true beauty of this annular configuration isn't just the single-seater shown here; it’s how easily it scales. Because the design is based on simple geometric primitives, it is highly adaptable to variable-driven manufacturing. We don't need to start from scratch to increase capacity. Through parametric design, if a customer requires a 5-seater rideshare configuration, we simply input that variable. The software automatically recalculates the required central diameter to accommodate five seats, expands the surrounding lift-disc area to generate necessary thrust, and thickens structural ribs accordingly. From a personal commuter pod to a multi-passenger aerial taxi, the fundamental architecture remains the same. This approach drastically reduces the engineering lead time for customized variants. Simplicity, safety, and scalability. What are your thoughts on annular designs for the future of urban flight? #eVTOL #UrbanAirMobility #UAM #FutureOfTransport #EngineeringDesign #ParametricArchitecture #Innovation #Aviation

While everyone in tech is obsessed with bigger models, more compute, and endless hype cycles — Switzerland quietly launched something practical, human, and powered by real engineering. Will this work in your city? The world’s first tram-mounted pedestrian airbags. Developed with Alstom, using sensors + AI to detect unavoidable collisions and deploy a front-mounted airbag that can cushion or push pedestrians out of danger. This is what innovation should look like in 2026: + AI that saves lives, not just writes emails + Sensors + edge intelligence preventing accidents before they happen + Smart cities built around people, not vehicles The future isn’t only cloud-scale AI models. The future is hyper-local intelligence—embedded in the everyday systems that move us, protect us, and shape how cities function. When machine learning, hardware engineering, and urban design intersect… real progress happens. More of this, please. #AI #SmartCities #Mobility #Innovation #SafetyTech #UrbanFuture #Alstom #Zurich #EdgeAI #TransportationTech #FutureOfCities via @albinfo.ch #PublicTransport

India’s smartest transport upgrade didn’t happen underground. It happened on the road. 🚌 Not in Delhi. Not in Mumbai. But in Bhubaneswar. While most cities chased shiny metro projects, Bhubaneswar fixed its buses. Through the Mo Bus initiative by Capital Region Urban Transport, the city transformed public transport into something people actually trust. Here’s what they did differently: • CCTV cameras in every bus • Panic buttons for safety • Real-time tracking • Clean, modern bus shelters • Last-mile e-rickshaw integration • 40% women conductors The result? 📈 200% rise in ridership 🚗 57% shift from private vehicles 🌿 Lower emissions 👩 More inclusive workforce No noise. No hype. Just execution. Urban innovation isn’t always about building bigger. Sometimes it’s about fixing basics — brilliantly. If Bhubaneswar can do it, why can’t every city? Would you switch to buses if they were this reliable? Let’s talk. 👇 #PublicTransport #UrbanMobility #SustainableCities #SmartCity #Solutionaries

A New Category of Urban Vehicles Is Emerging A French startup, AEmotion, is developing a vehicle that sits between a motorcycle and a car — and it could reshape how people move through cities. Key stats to know: • Width: ~79 cm — far narrower than a typical car, enabling easier maneuvering and tighter parking in urban environments. • Tilting capability: up to ≈35° lean angle, giving improved handling and stability similar to a motorcycle. • Seating: 2-person enclosed cabin with seatbelts and protection structures, bringing car-like safety to a micro vehicle. • Powertrain: Fully electric, designed for efficient short urban trips and potential battery-swap systems. Why it matters: Cities are becoming more congested, and parking space is shrinking. Traditional cars are oversized for most short urban trips, while scooters and bikes lack safety and comfort for many users. Vehicles like this could fill the gap — offering space-efficient, safer, and agile urban transport. If this category scales, the future of urban mobility may not just be electric — it may also be much smaller and more efficient. #FutureMobility #EV #Micromobility #UrbanTransport #Innovation

🚗💡 What if your next parking space... was waiting in the sky? In the heart of Shenzhen, something incredible is happening. While most cities struggle with tight roads and crowded lots, this city is parking cars vertically — like stacking books on a shelf. 🏙️🔄 Meet the Skylot Vertical Parking Tower A futuristic system that holds 1,164 cars in a rotating, space-saving structure. Here’s how it works: ➡️ Drive up to the entry bay ➡️ Step out ➡️ The system does the rest Your car is lifted, rotated, and parked in a high-rise grid — no ramps, no humans needed. In under 2 minutes, it’s parked. Need it back? It descends like magic. 🌍 Why does this matter? ✅ Cities are running out of space ✅ Traffic congestion is growing ✅ Land is expensive ✅ Time is priceless Vertical parking isn’t just cool tech — it’s a smarter urban solution. It saves land, reduces emissions from idling cars, and gives cities room to breathe. 🆚 Unlike traditional multistory parking garages, vertical towers use less land, eliminate driver error, and retrieve your car in under 2 minutes — no circling, no ramps, no walking. They’re more compact, more secure, and designed for the speed and density of modern urban life. Imagine this in every major city: 🚫 No more circling for parking 🌳 More space for parks and people 🌬️ Cleaner air 🚦 Better traffic flow 💭 The future of mobility isn’t just electric cars or flying taxis. It’s also about where we keep those vehicles — and how we design space for people, not just machines. So next time you’re stuck looking for parking, ask yourself: What if your car could park itself — 20 stories up? 💬 What innovation — personal or global — has inspired you most this year? 👇 Share below. Barrier Transfer Machine (BTM The Auckland Harbour Bridge Barrier Transfer Machine 🚧 This isn’t science fiction. This is civil engineering at its smartest. Meet the Barrier Transfer Machine (BTM), the silent traffic strategist working daily on the Auckland Harbour Bridge 🇳🇿. 🔧 What makes this machine extraordinary? ▪️ Two powerful engines working in harmony ▪️ Crab-like sideways movement, yes, it literally walks across the bridge ▪️ Lifts 16 concrete barriers at once, each weighing 750 kg ▪️ That’s 12 tonnes of concrete moved in a single operation ▪️ No bridge shutdown. No chaos. No delays. 🚦 Why does this matter? Traffic demand changes by the hour: Morning → more lanes into the city Evening → more lanes out of the city Instead of rebuilding roads or widening bridges, engineers designed a dynamic solution, a machine that reconfigures the road itself. 🧠 The real genius? Zero manual handling Millimetre-level precision Maintains structural safety while traffic flows Extends the lifespan of existing infrastructure Saves millions in expansion costs 🌍 This is sustainable engineering in action ✔️ Smarter use of existing assets ✔️ Reduced congestion = lower emissions ✔️ Technology serving people, not the other way around 💡 Lesson for engineers and leaders: Innovation isn’t always about building more. Sometimes, it’s about making what we already have work better. Civil engineering is not just concrete and steel, It’s strategy, timing, and intelligent design. 👏 Respect to the engineers and operators behind this system. #REPOST for all Engineers and operators ♻️ #CivilEngineering #SmartInfrastructure #TrafficEngineering #EngineeringInnovation #SustainableTransport #InfrastructureDesign #FutureOfCities #EngineeringExcellence #wakakotohi

Singapore recently unveiled the East Coast Integrated Depot, the world’s first “four-in-one” transport depot- stacking three MRT depots vertically alongside a bus depot within a single site. Designed to accommodate around 220 trains and more than 500 buses, the facility demonstrates how engineering innovation can solve one of the biggest urban challenges: limited land availability. By integrating multiple transport depots into a single footprint, the project is expected to save about 44 hectares of land- roughly the size of 60 football fields. But beyond the scale, the project highlights a broader shift in infrastructure thinking: • Multi-use infrastructure design • Efficient land utilisation in dense cities • Integrated transport operations As cities grow denser, engineering solutions like this will become increasingly important- ensuring infrastructure is not only functional, but also spatially efficient, resilient, and future-ready. 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gVfMn8ch #Infrastructure #UrbanEngineering #FutureCities #TransportInfrastructure #SustainableCities
