So we were asked to pitch for a B2B website the other week that would be part of a D2C group of websites. On the phone they were adamant it had to be Shopify because it’s the best and it does B2B. As an agency and primiarily a consultant I told them let’s forget about platforms for now, let’s meet up and go through exactly what you need it to do both now and in 5 years but also let’s go through what your customers need it to do. Off the back of the meeting some top level items we indentified: - 7 websites across 4 brands - Pharma products - High level of conpliance needed - Products have different restrictions and can only be sold to specific types of customers - Already in 2 countries with 4 more planned - PPC ineffective (due to product class) and needs to rely on SEO We went away, looked at Shopify Plus, Magento, Adobe Commerce and BigCommerce - we scored each one on a point system based on how much they could solve out of the box, how much via modules/plugins and what features they just couldn’t do. We included the cost to deliver, monthly costs from licenses and transaction fees even hosting using the data from their existing websites.
