Why? Because no matter how innovative the tool, your investment only pays off if people actually use it. Otherwise, it’s just 🔥burning through cash. Here are 4 steps you can take now to build a stronger foundation for future adoption: 1️⃣ Provide more support during onboarding. If some employees struggle with technology, invest extra time in support initiatives. Whatever time you think is enough—double it. Adoption grows when employees feel confident, not overwhelmed. 2️⃣ Cater to different learning styles. 🎨 Everyone learns differently: some are visual, others auditory, and many are interactive learners.     Where AI truly excels is in collaboration, not just automation. Treating AI as a one-time solution means missing its real value. When you embrace AI as a partner, you unlock exponential growth in your creativity, productivity, and problem-solving.   1️ Ask better questions. Instead of asking, "What are the best ways to market a product?" ask, "What are three unconventional marketing strategies for a B2B SaaS product targeting mid-sized companies in the aerospace industry?" The specificity and context enable AI to provide tailored, actionable ideas.   2️ Use AI to challenge your assumptions. For example, if you believe that a premium price point is the best approach for your new product, ask AI, "What are the potential risks of a premium pricing strategy, and what alternative models could we explore?" AI can reveal ideas you may not have considered, like tiered pricing or freemium models.   3️ Think beyond text.  For instance, if you’re preparing a pitch for a new business proposal, use AI to: generate a professional slide deck outline, create data visualizations for your performance metrics, and write code for a demo prototype. AI’s versatility extends far beyond just content creation.   4️ Close the feedback loop.  For example, when drafting a marketing email, the first draft from AI might read, "Save time with our tool." You can refine it using feedback: "Make this more engaging for time-pressed professionals, focusing on productivity benefits." The next iteration might transform into: "Reclaim your time—our tool helps you accomplish more in less time, allowing you to focus on what truly matters." Continue iterating until it aligns with your audience’s needs.   5️ Blend strengths.  For example, when creating a whitepaper for your company, let AI research and generate a structured outline, and draft sections based on your prompts. You can then add expertise, real-world examples, and polish the narrative. While AI accelerates the foundational work, you provide the depth and insight.

    During my decades in retail, I’ve seen how yesterday’s innovations become today’s customer expectations. Which means I’m always on the lookout for the latest breakthroughs that are poised to become tomorrow’s “table stakes.” Things like omnichannel retailing, price matching, curbside pickup and self-checkout have quickly gone from unique selling points for retailers to baseline expectations for consumers. Here are some emerging technologies I’m watching: 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 According to Sender.net, 80% of self-identified frequent shoppers say they only buy from businesses that tailor their experiences. Hyper-personalization, driven by advanced data analytics and AI, allows us to offer customized recommendations, promotions, and services. This level of personalization will soon be a fundamental aspect of customer engagement, ensuring each interaction feels unique and relevant. 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗜) AI is revolutionizing retail, from predictive analytics and inventory management to customer service and personalized marketing. AI-driven chatbots and virtual assistants enhance the shopping experience by providing instant, accurate responses and recommendations. As AI continues to evolve, it will become integral to retail operations as a way of optimizing operations and boosting customer satisfaction. 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗩𝗥/𝗔𝗥) VR and AR technologies are opening new dimensions in customer engagement. Virtual try-ons, immersive product displays, and interactive store experiences are reshaping how customers interact with brands. These technologies provide a rich, engaging shopping experience that transcends traditional boundaries. Soon, they will be critical elements of the retail landscape. 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀 I recently checked out at my local Whole Foods using just the palm of my hand. Contactless biometric payments like this are becoming more prevalent. So are digital wallets including cryptocurrencies. These advanced payment methods offer greater convenience, security, and speed, aligning with the expectations of today’s tech-savvy consumers. Adopting these technologies will soon be essential for our customers. 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 The future of retail is unfolding before our eyes, with rapid innovation and ever-evolving customer expectations. As a retail leader, my role has always been to ensure my teams not only adapt to these changes but anticipate them. By integrating today’s breakthroughs and preparing for tomorrow’s advancements, we can continue to deliver exceptional value and experiences to our customers.     In case you missed my talk today at the AMAA event, here are 5 key takeaways for driving adoption of general emerging tech, inspired by Jonah Berger's The Catalyst: 1. Don't "Sell" the Tech; Diagnose and Solve the User's Problem. The most critical shift is moving away from features-and-benefits evangelism. Instead, become a "catalyst" by deeply understanding why the target audience hasn't already adopted the new tech. Identify their existing pain points, anxieties, and ingrained habits, and then position the emerging tech as the direct, friction-reducing solution to their specific obstacles, not just a cool new tool. 2. Quantify the Cost of "Doing Nothing" (The Status Quo). People inherently resist change due to "endowment bias" – the perceived value of what they already possess (even if it's suboptimal). To counter this, vividly illustrate the quantifiable, often hidden, costs of sticking with the old ways. Show how inaction leads to lost efficiency, missed opportunities, increased vulnerability, or competitive disadvantage. Make the existing situation feel more costly and risky than adopting the new solution. 3. Make the Unfamiliar Feel Familiar (Shrink the Distance). Emerging technologies often feel distant or intimidating. Bridge this psychological gap by connecting the new tech to existing mental models or familiar workflows. This could mean integrating it seamlessly into current systems, using analogies to widely adopted technologies, or breaking down complex changes into small, easily digestible, and less daunting steps. The goal is to reduce the perceived leap required for adoption. 4. De-Risk Trial and Experience (Alleviate Uncertainty). The unknown generates paralyzing uncertainty. For emerging tech, reduce the perceived risk of trying it out. Offer low-commitment pilots, free trials, "try before you buy" options, or phased rollouts. Focus on delivering tangible, immediate value with minimal upfront investment or perceived disruption, allowing users to experience benefits and build confidence without high stakes. Remember: this isn't just a trial. It's a solved problem, delivered. 5. Leverage Social Proof and Trusted Voices (Corroborate & Encourage Others). Humans are inherently influenced by what others do, especially those they respect or relate to. Actively showcase successful adoptions, particularly by peers, industry leaders, or respected third parties. This goes beyond testimonials; it's about demonstrating real-world impact through credible case studies or endorsements from diverse, trusted sources. This collective validation reduces individual risk perception and signals that adoption is becoming the norm.     Leaders everywhere are asking how to embrace AI- and how to bring their teams with them. The answer isn’t more tools; it’s scale, redesigned work, and a culture that learns fast. Technology matters but people matter more. At World Economic Forum in Davos this year, conversations centered on moving from AI adoption to value at enterprise scale and how people and technology advance together. Key to this is the way we, as leaders, lead during this. My playbook for the next 6 months: - Reshape work end‑to‑end- processes, talent, tools, ethics. - Free time for creativity (set bold goals and model continuous learning). - Make culture the catalyst (address excitement and anxiety, build trust, and support real on‑the‑job adoption). How do we do this as leaders? These are the four actions I’ll continue to take: 1. lead with a growth mindset and raise AI literacy, 2. empower (don’t just manage), 3. communicate openly, 4. embrace change. The next six months are pivotal. AI won’t replace leaders, but leaders who embrace AI will replace those who don’t.
