If you’re learning or working with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, this resource might help 💻
Resource websites are nothing new…especially when it comes to coding. But each new site unearths some new resources and I’m hoping my new site Frontend Mentor will uncover some new gems you don’t know exist.
I’ve been working on a number of projects since reducing my work hours late last year, but there was one problem…I hadn’t launched any of them.
It’s easy to launch when you’re working for a client. That’s what you’re paid to do. However, I’ve been finding that doing it for yourself is a whole other story.
Recently, I decided enough was enough and gave myself a couple of days to build a site, as I wanted to just get something out the door. I wasn’t going to get hung up on the details, I was just going to launch.
When I’m not writing code, you’ll often find me teaching people how to do it for themselves at General Assembly in London, where I work as a Lead Instructor.
So I thought I could kill two birds with one stone: launch a website, while also helping my students.
Over the years as a Front-end/JavaScript developer I’ve pulled together a list of sites and resources that I’ve found useful in either enhancing my knowledge or improving my workflow, so to start with a list of those resources seemed like a great solution.
Building the site
Perfect definitely is the enemy of good when it comes to launching digital products. I would go even further and say perfect is the enemy of usable.
I didn’t use any design work for Frontend Mentor (as I’m sure you’ll notice when you view the site), as that would slow down the launch. All I was aiming for was to get it out there for people to use.
Going forward I plan on developing Frontend Mentor, building out features and possibly turning it into more than just a resource site. A big goal of mine in life is to carry on teaching people how to code and make it more accessible to those who are intimidated by it. So anything that helps with that goal is a possible direction to move in.
If you have any suggestions, please do get in touch and let me know. All feedback is welcome and I hope you find Frontend Mentor useful as it grows and evolves!
Great resource.
