Winning Is Fun!

We really do embody that ethos here at Ritchie Bros. Financial Services (RBFS) where, luckily for us, the great results keep coming. In fact, the last two quarters of 2021 were our best so far and there’s no sign of any of it slowing down. We’ve had tremendous growth as an organization over the last few years, not only in terms of results but also in terms of up-leveling the leadership capabilities and the bench.

Sales Director Reenu Goyal joined us just under a year ago and currently oversees our sales team. We asked her to talk us through her experience with RBFS and what she attributes our continuous success to. Read our chat below!

Reenu, you’ve been here nearly a year now. Run us through your journey to and in RBFS.

Three years ago, I met with key RBFS leaders and was enthralled by their entrepreneurial spirit and hunger for results. The timing and circumstances sadly weren’t mutually befitting at that time. Fortunately for me though, we stayed in touch and I was able to transition to RBFS in the Spring of 2021!

I was hired as the General Manager of Sales Operations – which meant after spending some time learning our processes, I was given oversight of our sales management team. This was a tremendous learning opportunity. Over the 8 months with this team, I learned a lot about our industry, our business, and our people (… while having a lot of fun too!). 

We’ve since reframed our sales organization, opening more growth opportunities for our team and allowing me to take on the role of Sales Director for RBFS.  I now have a narrowed group of direct reports but essentially, my team and I lead the sales organization, as well as the creation and execution of strategy within it. Luckily for us, our team (180 strong and growing rapidly!) is filled with highly talented and super motivated individuals. And even better yet, we’re a fortunate sales team that is truly supported by our amazing Operations Team (equally talented and charged!).

The journey to and within RBFS has been nothing short of amazing so far and I can’t see that changing.

What really drew you to RBFS?

What drew me to RBFS initially was the leaders’ openness and enthusiasm about their vision and commitment to their people. In initial conversations, I don’t recall speaking about financing or equipment but rather just all the avenues of potential growth. Truthfully, they oozed excitement as they talked about the future and it was easy to fall for not only the ideas but also the people that shared them.

Thereafter, as I learned more about the organization, I was equally intrigued by the vision of Ritchie Bros. and the journey they had taken to become so much more than an auction house.  

While the undertone of growth was everywhere, it was probably the passion for not only growing the business but also helping grow the people within it, the partners attached to it, and the customers supporting it that excited me most.

And what keeps you excited every day that you’re here?

I love being a part of a smaller organization (within the giant ecosystem of Ritchie Bros.!) whose mantra is to “fund dreams” … and literally strives to do so for employees, customers, and partners! It’s a great feeling to see the sense of community within the team.

And, I get to do what I love every day! I love collaborating on how we can be better –today and in the future, developing others and myself, and overall, just being part of a team that genuinely cares to win every day. I've moved away from being fulfilled by just my own achievements to celebrating others’ and winning as a team. With the group that we have, we do that often. It’s a great place to be.

In this organization, we have the privilege of working with industry veterans as well as people who are just starting their careers. And to see everybody mesh and unlock ideas because we embrace differing opinions and experiences, that's something truly special.

So RBFS is a good fit for any career stage?

Whether you’re just starting your sales career or are looking to pivot, if this kind of energetic, team environment entices you, you can certainly jump in and thrive here. Finally, how would you summarize the RBFS experience?

It’s fun, results-oriented, and fast-paced. We’re unlocking opportunities continuously – and we can see no end to that.
