Why do we need cloud?

The first rule of management is delegation.Don't try and do everything yourself, because you can't

Introduction

Cloud is nothing else but a collection of services. Services are not only provided by cloud. It is available in real life too. We are dependent on so many services in our day to day life such as grocery, banking, hotels etc.So before discussing about the need of cloud,Let’s look into the question Why do we need a Server? And for that we have our fictional character John and his story of bakery shop.

Breakdown Story

John is a baker and he started a bakery which serves the best cakes in the area.

During his initial stages, he could find out that he is able to bake and deliver cakes one at a time and he is getting profit on that.

For scaling the sales, he figured out that he need to concentrate on one act and delegate the other one to a secondary person. So he hired a delivery boy and started concentrating on the baking part. Business started scaling up and there comes the next hurdle.

Finance

Since John knows multitasking reduces the quality, he hired a new person for handling the finance. As the profit gets higher, he started hiring new person for each service and buying buildings to host the business. After few years, he expanded the service to multiple places. Same activities were repeated there also. Started buying buildings and hiring persons for providing the services. And it continues even now.

Back to the question

The story that mentioned above seems to be relatable right? Yes,it is. This is how almost all the brands that we are hearing now have grown. What if we can replace few of the services executed by human in John's Bakery with a computer like billing, storing the information and all. That would be efficient right? That is why we need servers. We can reduce the human effort with computer by providing the same service with more efficiency.

But I haven’t answered the real question yet. Why do we need cloud?

Let it be a building that you bought for hosting your business or a server you bought it for hosting a service, we have some issues such as availability, scaling etc.We explained this issues in detail in the previous post discussing What is cloud.

What if we can hire the servers for compute, storage, database etc from a vendor as per our own requirement instead of buying it.Vendor will take care of the buildings, the bare metal servers everything. You only need to pay for what you are using .Its seems to be an insane thought right. This is where the cloud computing comes in to the picture. Cloud computing vendor can take care of your services and make sure the services are secure and available all the time. And this why we need cloud.

As said in the introduction, first rule of management is delegation.Cloud can be your best partner for the delegation.

I believe you got an idea on why servers needs to be hosted in cloud.
