Why #brexit and Why overreact?
So #brexit happened and the world reacted. The awareness of #brexit is far higher now than the period before the referendum. Each and every stock market in the world reacted to the #brexit, even if they are not affected by it. From being an internal matter of Britain and to some extent of EU , it is now projected as one of the disasters happened on planet earth. People even voted for #brexit now regret the decision and wanted to have a second referendum.
The pound is at the historical low. Rating agencies downgraded the rating of Britain. The British stock market is in bad shape. So, is it because of Britain being part of EU that rating agencies gave the highest rating for the country? The value of the pound is because of Britain being part of EU , even though the pound is not official currency of EU.
Country’s prime minister resigns. People are shocked. Are they well informed before asking them to vote? Do the voters are well aware of pros and cons of the decision? Or the whole referendum is treated as a democratic election.
Do the Britain’s half-hearted participation in EU from the start is the reason behind it? Or the immigration crisis at EU have made any impact on this? Do some bankrupt states in EU triggered the #brexit feelings or is it because of Germany’s over activism that caused this trigger. Does Britain misuse democracy to decide on a serious subject like this? Does Britain use referendum before colonising any countries or leaving before any colonies? where is or what is the boundary line for democracy in governance? Should there be any eligibility criteria before anyone can participate in referendums like this?
Even though Britain voted for #brexit now, we all know that it is not going to be an immediate event, since the process of exit is very long. It is going to be at least end 2018 or start of 2019 before Britain officially going to leave EU. If this is true why the rating agencies are downgrading Britain now, even though they are technically still part of EU? Why the pound and stock market react adversely based on an event that is not going to happen in at least 2 financial years?
What if Britain managed to have a good deal with EU that in effect retain major parts of the benefits after the negotiations? After all, it is beneficial for both Britain and EU to have a good working relationship. Currently, #brexit is on emotions. Let us all give a cooling off period, especially the media people. This will serve everybody’s interests
These are some of the thoughts that came to my mind when I started reading about #brexit. Being a person not even remotely related or going to be affected by #brexit, I was not interested in this topic, until my news feeds in social media and newspapers start filling with #brexit news.
