An API management platform is a tool that acts as a proxy for customer requests to protect the back end of an online service from being brought down from too many queries and its evolution.
API programmers use API management platforms to ensure customers don't intentionally or unintentionally take down services by sending too many queries to the back-end server.
An API management platform limits the number of queries for each customer per second or per day.
The platform does this by relaying requests between customers, consuming applications or partners and the API.
This stops users from making more requests than the API can handle and creating what is effectively a DoS (denial of services) attack, whether intentional or not. A user will at most be able to bring down the API management platform, leaving the API still standing.
Generally, API management platforms include analytics and usage reporting, API key and authorization management, live updated documentation, developer community management and billing and payment management.

Une plate-forme de gestion d'API est un outil qui agit comme un proxy pour les demandes des clients afin de protéger le back end d'un service en ligne d'un trop grand nombre de requêtes et de son évolution.
Les programmeurs d'API utilisent des plates-formes de gestion d'API pour s'assurer que les clients n’écroulent pas intentionnellement ou involontairement des services en envoyant trop de requêtes au serveur back-end.
Une plate-forme de gestion d'API limite le nombre de requêtes pour chaque client par seconde ou par jour.
Pour ce faire, la plate-forme relaie les requêtes entre les clients, les applications consommatrices ou les partenaires et l'API.
Cela empêche les utilisateurs de faire plus de requêtes que l'API ne peut traiter et de créer ce qui est effectivement une attaque DoS (déni de services), intentionnelle ou non.
Un utilisateur pourra tout au plus faire tomber la plate-forme de gestion de l'API, laissant l'API en l'état.
En général, les plates-formes de gestion de l'API comprennent l'analyse et les rapports d'utilisation, la gestion des clés et des autorisations de l'API, la documentation mise à jour en temps réel, la gestion de la communauté des développeurs et la gestion de la facturation et des paiements.
