This week in process excellence
Process mining remains a key component of process excellence. While trends reflect a clear evolution towards more advanced concepts such as process intelligence and process orchestration, process mining continues to serve as the bedrock of modern process improvement.
Research firm Everest Group recently published the Process Mining Products PEAK Matrix® Assessment 2024. Much like Gartner ’s 2024 Magic Quadrant™ for Process Mining Solutions, the report assesses process mining technology providers, positioning them as Leaders, Major Contenders and Aspirants based on their capabilities and offerings. Each profile offers a comprehensive picture of the provider’s key strengths and limitations.
The research is designed to help buyers select the best-fit provider for their requirements while providers can benchmark themselves against their competition. The vendors assessed in this year’s report include big players IBM , Celonis , Appian and Microsoft .
Meanwhile, a Gartner research paper published this week has outlined how technology innovation leaders can use process mining to create a digital twin of their operations to identify and suggest improvements for process performance. It highlights how insufficient ESG data, alongside transparency demands for supply chain and enterprise business operations, hinder sustainability efforts.

Looking forward, award-winning researcher and international speaker professor Dr. Stefanie Rinderle-Ma is set to discuss “conversational” process mining at an upcoming Women in Process Mining (WIPM) online event. On June 28, Rinderle-Ma, chair of Information Systems and Business Process Management at the Technical University of Munich , will explore how conversational process mining can enable the creation of process models with a chatbot based on textual sources such as process descriptions. During her presentation, Rinderle-Ma will talk about the core concepts of conversational process mining and how it can be applied in different application domains.
Clearly, process mining still plays a significant part in helping today’s organizations meet and surpass their business goals.
