Week 2: Exploring JavaScript and the Tetris Effect

Week 2: Exploring JavaScript and the Tetris Effect

Hi again! I’m excited to fill you in on my week with JavaScript and also as a side note what I learned about the Tetris Effect. All in all it was a good week full of challenges and learning

JavaScript has been an interesting animal this far. I have found myself being able figure out solutions and I am picking it up fairly well. However, I am getting stuck when trying to figure out where to start when attacking a problem. What’s helped me most with this is when I first started learning algebra and that in order for me to move forward I have to work backwards. Doing some of these problems has really solidified me making this transitions. I really love the logic that is behind figuring out these problems, It is almost like doing sudoko or a crossword puzzle. I haven’t really pushed myself to learn something new since my sophomore year of college.

With that being said I have been having really vivid dreams about coding and applying code to real life. So in an effort to figure out why I was having these dreams I came across something call the “Tetris Effect”. The Tetris Effect is “when people devote so much time and attention to an activity that it begins to pattern their thoughts, mental images, and dreams”. It is a really cool effect of the human brain where it practices skills that it thinks you are going to need the next day. It is a built in effect that is supposed to strengthen a person neural network to make someone better at a task or skill. I have had to find different activities to wind down my brain before bed but I thought this tidbit of information was pretty cool. If you go through the same thing I highly encourage you to look up the Tetris Effect yourself. Anyways I will have more to report on learning Javascript and piecing it together with what I’ve already learned about HTML and CSS. Have a great week and get pumped that it is the last week before Games of Thrones makes its comeback.

Nice read, loving the updates! Im excited to start my journey at The Iron Yard in August!
