We can help with Migrating Parse.com to the open source Parse Server
Facebook is closing down Parse.com
Parse that was acquired by Facebook three years ago, but earlier this year they announced that they were dropping the technology and it would no longer be available from January 28th, 2017 onwards. What does this mean for web, or mobile applications that are currently using the technology?Parse is a seriously successful system because it provided an easy way for developers to store data in the cloud from desktop and mobile apps. Now many companies will be already planning, or in the midst of moving to a new platform. It sounds painful, but we’re already helping existing and new clients make this transition to a replacement system and have put together a useful guide below to help you. What is Parse.com?
In simple terms most modern mobile, or desktop applications require a connection to the Internet to pull and push dynamic content such as user accounts, documents, purchases and shared content. It has the added bonus of being able to save your data offline and then when a connection becomes available, all queued up data is then saved to Parse and updated across the application. To put this in context, you could start your journey on a desktop app, and then hop onto an iOS, Android, or Windows mobile app. The great thing about parse is it makes it easy to synchronise the data across all devices, so you don’t have to have multiple accounts.Parse Migration
- Firstly you need to decide which platform you want to replace it with. Naturally many people are now considering the open source Parse Server that Parse.com has made available. The only issue is that you’ll now need to host your own Parse server instances. That’s fine for us, but for some clients that don’t have this experience they will need some support through the process. One option would be to host the server on something like Heroku, with MongoDB and Parse. Here’s a guide to help you set it up, taken from Heroku’s website (you’ll need a Heroku account, which is free to setup)
- Step 1: Create a free account on Heroku
- Step 2: Create an app from the Heroku Dashboard
- Step 3: Install a MongoDB add-on
- Step 4: Enable GitHub integration
- Step 5: Deployment
- Step 6: Configure your Parse server with config vars
- Step 7: Migrate existing Parse data
Other Parse.com Alternatives

- Firebase – Cross platform realtime database, with authentication and static hosting
- AnyPresence – The AnyPresence MBaaS is focused on simplifying the process of building enterprise mobile apps that run on many devices, without sacrificing developer flexibility.
- ApiOmat – ApiOmat enables your enterprise processes to function as mobile applications.
- Appcelerator Arrow -A next-gen MBaaS, Arrow consists of two primary components, Builder and Cloud. Arrow Builder lets developers rapidly assemble APIs, data models and data connectors either via visual wizard or programmatically.
- Appery.io – Integrated mobile backend services (MBaaS), so you can focus on your apps, not infrastructure, including database, push, and server code.
