Are Video Interns a good idea?
If you saw my last article about hiring an internal video team then you may be thinking, “how could I leverage inexpensive talent”… basically hiring interns to produce videos for you… but is that a good idea… maybe, maybe not… I’ll explain in this article!

Are you curious about hiring interns to help produce videos for your business? You’re not alone… I get asked about this all the time so let’s dive into it! A friend once told me a great line that makes me think of interns in general…
“Do great work, if you can’t do Great work, then do good work, if you can do good work then do a lot of work.”
Interns probably won’t do great work or even good work… I love interns but they’re interns for a reason. And let’s be honest, there are only 2 reasons why you’d be interested in hiring interns — you’re looking for cheap labor or you love teaching and helping people grow in your area of expertise.
So you’re looking for cheap labor and there’s nothing wrong with that, but let’s peel back one more layer so we can set some expectations. Be honest with yourself, are you looking for cheap labor because that’s just what you can afford right now or are you looking for cheap labor because you don’t really see the value — I’m not judging… either way interns shouldn’t be the work force behind the quality content you want put out into the world to attract customers but they could absolutely support the work force that gets you there!
That’s really the difference in expectations… it comes down to the speed and quality you’re ok with! Because one of the biggest mistakes I see companies make when hiring video interns or cheap video labor is having unrealistic expectations.
If you don’t have the ability, time and patience to train inexperienced labor or you’re looking for higher quality than what you’re going to want to check out my next article!

Excellent article! As a former video intern, I can relate a lot to this. I think it should be a mix of both development and constant feedback to shape them into what you want them to be and if you are not willing to give up some of your knowledge to them. Then they won't see it as valuable.
