The Value Of Thinking Backward And Forward

The Value Of Thinking Backward And Forward

I hope you had an amazing weekend!

Sunday I was catching up on my thoughtful reading and came across another wonderful article from the Farnam Street Blog.

This one was about the Munger Operating System for life, named after Charlie Munger.

If you don’t know who he is…Charlie is the vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway and the man who Warren Buffet describes as his “partner”.

His success can be attributed, according to many who have studied him, to living a life that really “works”.

A key tenant of his Operating System is to recognize the value of thinking BACKWARD AND FORWARD.

That is to say, learning to think through problems backwards as well as forward.

His thesis is that problems frequently get easier, and are easier to solve, if you turn around in reverse.

I’ve found this to be exceptionally true when starting out with a new business idea.

Instead of asking yourself “how can I make more money online with WordPress websites?”, you instead think “what’s the worst way to make money online with WordPress websites? What would automatically waste as much of my time as possible and how do I avoid it?”.

By taking the course of starting with what you should NOT do online, you can more likely start with a destination that represents where you ultimately DO want to arrive, and then set a course backwards towards figuring out the steps required to get you there.

If you’re working now on building your new online business idea, I would like you to try out this technique and let me know how it works for you.

Get a pen and paper and write down the things you should AVOID doing online with your business, and then see if you find that it clarifies for you path back to the things you SHOULD be doing instead… today.

Let me know how it works for you

I’ll see you on the next video!
