Value Stream Mapping of Operations – Streamlining Operational Outcomes.

Value Stream Mapping of Operations – Streamlining Operational Outcomes.

Business today faces the dilemma of extracting maximum value from separate business unit silos towards a compounded value proposition that the end users desire. Can a global full service firm become a marketing innovator while also achieving operational excellence? We all agree that, with an increasing pool of data relating to internal operations, customers, employees, partners and competitors, the combination of both the functions can 'co-create' value.

With new data and analytics, firms can now plan strategically and simultaneously in two domains ie both marketing/ product innovation and operations. This calls for a shift from a transactional to an outcome based approach of operations management. Combining the operational efforts of core functions rather than pursuing a “sum of its parts” approach, is the order of the day. Data is being increasingly recognized as a strategic asset, bolstered by maximizing the use of unified communication, collaboration and predictive analytics. Data integration and analyses is taking precedence over data ownership or sponsorship.

Specifically, the attempt is to answer:

  • Why are organizations changing towards centralized operating models, and the extent and nature of benefits to be realized? or do we need to keep certain business units decentralized ??
  • What information and tools are needed in moving to a centralized operating models and the key value points that has to be taken into consideration?
  • How unstructured data sets can be best integrated to derive maximum value to develop evidence based strategies and convince key stakeholders?
  • How organizations are embedding Change Management in their strategy to relieve themselves from the conventional complexity of change, and the typical pitfalls that need to be avoided.
  • Does a firm take a Combinational or Transformational approach in the value synergy extraction framework?

More questions than answers!! With Artificial Intelligence also claiming an increasing stake in decision making, business leaders have their task cut out.
