Using my Intelligence. (Workspace ONE Intelligence that is)

As part of an End User team for a sprawling Global Organization we’re always looking for ways to make what we do easier.

One of the big pieces of work for most orgs at the moment is probably thinking how they’re going to transition across to Windows 11, not sure about you but i’ve been waking up in a cold sweat most nights thinking that our machines will upgrade on mass, despite Aria Carley (Microsoft's Queen of Windows Updates) repeatedly saying that this won’t happen.

But then when machines do upgrade, how do we gather feedback? How do we check whether machines have upgraded, and where? How do I do all of this?

Well, I looked to VMWares Workspace One Intelligence Product for the answer.

The first problem I wanted to solve is that I wanted to know as soon as one of our machines, anywhere in the world upgrades to Windows 11, so that I can check that something hasn’t gone wrong somewhere and I'm suddenly going to become inundated with complaints.

To do this I set up a simple Custom Widget, > if the platform is WinRT and the OS Version starts with 10.0.2 then show me! I used the Donut Options and Grouped by UEM Group name so that I could see where the upgrades are happening.

Straight away I had visibility of all machines that had upgraded, to my relief there were only a few and they were all IT People who had quite rightly started to trial the new OS

Simple Windows 11 Custom Widget

But who wants to sit there looking at a dashboard all day? I don’t - so I decided to build a simple automated trigger based on the same data - if a device upgrades then send me an email, very easy.

Job done! I can now sit back and know whats happening out there in the world without constantly searching out the information, so cool.

Email Triggers

But then how do I make this a little bit more interactive, it's great knowing that a machine has upgraded but I want to get feedback around how the upgrade process went and what do people think of Windows 11, are there any issues we need to know about?

In step another simple trigger, this time an email out to the end user “Hey, we’ve just noticed that you’ve moved to Windows 11! Well done for being an early adopter. It would be great if you could assist in our testing, the link below is to a Google form where we would love to gather your feedback, good or bad. Or failing that just email us” (something like that).

This has made a huge difference, we already have people giving us feedback, we're not having to do anything, they upgrade, they get the feedback form and I get told they've upgraded.

And all of this I was able to do myself, in a very short period, using very simple tools - no programming required. We're all gathering data everyday, Workspace One Intelligence allows folk like me to use that data for practical everyday reasons.
