Updates on GoogleCloud - Issue No. 3

Time is rushing so fast, it's already two weeks since the last "Updates on GoogleCloud", so time for a new one. Let's dive right into what happened in and around Google Cloud Platform over the last two weeks:

  1. Great security innovation from the OpenSource-Community: "Voucher evaluates container images created by CI/CD pipelines and signs those images if they meet certain predefined security criteria" . Voucher can be used with Binary Authorization from GoogleCloud "to enforce security requirements, such as provenance (e.g., a signature that is only added when images are built from a secure source branch) and block vulnerable images (e.g., require a signature that is only applied to images that don’t have any known vulnerabilities above the ‘medium’ level)". Check the Blog from GoogleCloud here for more information. Great stuff in my opinion.
  2. And another one about security in GoogleCloud: Check out the lastest updates on Security Enhancement in GCP here.
  3. Here's a nice enhancement to Cloud FileStore, GoogleCloud's Managed File-Storage Service: FileStore Backups are now in preview in all regions > Check out the Blog for more information.
  4. Whenever there's a post from Kelsey Hightower, Developer Advocate at Google, it's worth reading: Here's one called "I do declare! Infrastructure automation with Configuration as Data" which is basically about Kubernetes and the Kubernetes Resource Model, Terrafrom and Config Connector, "a Kubernetes addon that allows you to manage Google Cloud resources through Kubernetes".
  5. A huge improvement for everyone looking to migrate / move databases to GCP CloudSQL is the newly launched "Database Migration Service" which is now in Preview. "DMS provides a fast and seamless migration to Cloud SQL, the fully managed database service for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server". Check out the following Blog which also includes a 5-Minute introduction video of DMS.
  6. Kubernetes is not only favored due to it's operational benefits like "better resource efficiency, higher scalability, advanced resiliency, security, etc.". but it's also beneficial to the software development side of the house. Read here, why!
  7. New functionalities for Data Governance in GCP are here. Check them out > Link
  8. You are interested in Application-Modernization and looking for a gift (because christmas-time is coming) > Then have a look at the "Anthos Developer Sandbox" which is "free with a Google account".
  9. Felt to limited with Google Cloud Container Registry and want to take your software supply chain to the next level: Then Artifact Registry is for you - Now GA on GCP!
  10. SpringBoot-Applications are pretty common: Check out the following Blog on how to log them effectively with Stackdriver.

That's it for now, hope you enjoyed the information, have a nice weekend, once it's there.
