"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."  -Wayne Gretzky (and Michael Scott)

"Just gonna send it." -Larry Enticer

Wow, thank you to all those who read, reacted to, and commented on my first article! When I wrote that, I knew it wasn't as polished as I felt I could get it with more review and revision. And yet, I was hoping there might be some value in just getting it posted. So today, despite wanting much more prep, and in the spirit of not letting perfect be the enemy of good, I want to begin to share a little more about what I've been up to.

As many of you who have followed NewVantage Partners Big Data and AI studies know, the vast majority of executives they surveyed (79.8%) attribute the “principal challenge to becoming data-driven” to people, business processes, and culture.  Fortunately, a large number of respondents (70.9%) also reported that they believe their firms have a business culture which is receptive to change and organizational transformation.

This resonates with my personal experience, which is that healthcare organizations want to experience more value (better results/lower cost) from their data investments. They also believe that their mission, values, and culture support them in becoming data-driven, but they still struggle mightily to execute. These are also the types of non-technical challenges which require organizations to consider the "long view" - particularly difficult during periods of economic uncertainty.

All of these can feel like insurmountable tasks to even the most effective healthcare data leaders; those with the most executive support and ample resources - both of which many CDOs, CAOs, and VPs/Directors of Analytics are struggling with.

This is where I believe I can do some real good.  With the encouragement, support, and partnership of a dear friend and deeply-respected colleague of over 20 years - Eric Just, of Just Health Technologies - the two of us have been developing a differentiated data strategy consulting offering for healthcare data leaders.

Eric and I have started to mine our collective experience and have begun to develop the playbooks and methodologies we believe will empower data leaders to meet these challenges pragmatically AND strategically.

There's still so much more to share (like what I'm going to call my business entity, who we're already working with, etc.) but just putting this out there makes it feel more "real", and we encourage anyone with similar needs, questions, ideas, or feedback to please get in touch.

Finally, I just want to share that I have received so much encouragement and support from so many unexpected places and people over the last month.  If you are launching something yourself or could just use a little help - please don't hesitate to DM me, as I would love to use my network to support and encourage you in any way I can.

Mike, looking forward to seeing what you and Eric can do. Awesome partnership!

You guys are going to do great things

You have described the gap so well, I am so excited to see how you both will turn executing from a gap to an advantage for all the CDO’s and others working in this space. I will be definitely following.

Congrats Mike - that's really exciting! I hope it takes off for you!

That’s a powerhouse thought partnership….. Michael Doyle and Eric Just! Watch out!
