Typeface About-Face
America's Sudden U-Turn on Highway Fonts This CityLab piece from The Atlantic (on the global shift in typeface on highway signage) made me think of my friend and colleague Mike Hawks and the beautiful work he and his team at Mayer/Reed regularly produce.
Personally, I'm moved by this story from 2013, A City Gets Its Own Font detailing how Chattanooga designers created a typeface specifically for their town. Like the Green Loop, this could be a fabulous future Design Week Portland competition. I herein officially suggest "Sasquatch Rounded Bold". (Which isn't an actual font ... yet!)
