Trust
Among all the qualities a leader possess, one thing stands above the rest - TRUST. It is the secret sauce for any organization. With trust, all things are possible. Commitments, Energy, Belief, Engagement, and Loyalty becomes reality.
However, trust cannot be earned easy. It doesn't come up with your title. So, how do you earn Trust?
Be Personal
Invest your time and effort to get know your team personally, and not as colleagues. During breaks, check about their hobbies, sports, the music they like. It doesn't stop here. Whenever you come across their interest, share it with them. Just show your curiosity but don't become creepy.
Enlighten
Managers have a fear to share knowledge. They assume that their value in an organization will fade away. Actually, that is not true. When you share knowledge, it instills a confident among your team members that they are led by the right person. They know you have worked up hard to reach this position. By sharing, you pass on the torch to enlighten everyone and that brings RESPECT.
Keep up the promise
Your team will come up with a lot of demands and request. To satisfy and gain the trust of your employees don't promise all. Accept, what falls within your boundary and scope. If you promise to take them for a treat for achieving the milestone, keep it up on time.
Listen
Your teammates approach you because they believe you would be the one to help them. Don't turn them away. It may not be of great importance but listen to what they say. You may not solve their problem, but you have already given the shoulder for them to rely on.
Transparent
This is one of the most powerful methods to earn trust. Communicate with the team about new initiatives, wins, and loss etc. When being transparent, you make your team to be a part of a larger picture.
Purpose and Passion
A team without a purpose is a team without passion. The purpose is what gives a team the 'why' to go an extra mile for the work they do. Now, take the lead and exhibit the passion for the work you do. It is contagious. The team will catch the lead and will follow you to achieve the goals.
Credits and Mistake
When there is a blame, many find a reason to escape the situation. And, for Managers, it is the team. Stop pointing fingers. Instead, accept the responsibility when a mistake is made. Protect the team. They would have simply followed your instruction.
When there are credits bring on those people to the stage. They are responsible for the success. When you thank and credit them, they will be more motivated to do things properly.
Trust takes a long time to grow. If you can focus on the above points with action, you will foster trusted relationships that will drive results.
