Top 10 Interview Tips

How to Prepare for your Interview :

1. Research the Company before the Interview:

You need to do some research on the company before your job interview.

Knowing about:

  • the company culture
  • the latest company news
  • the structure of the company
  • the department or team the successful job candidate will join

gives you a real advantage in the interview.

A candidate is expected to enter into a conversation with the interviewer, not just respond to questions. Having information to hand about the company makes this possible.

Look at the company's website and use this company research check list to get the right company details before your job interview.

2. Review your CV :

Interviews put you under pressure and can make you forget important things. Look over your CV. If it becomes the focus of the conversation, you’ll be ready to talk about your experience, achievements and qualifications.

3. Find out the type of Interview you will be going on :

There are several common types of interviews such as one on one, group, and behavioral. You shouldn’t assume you will get a certain one. Don’t be afraid to ask your recruiter what kind of interview will have if you don’t know the interview will be more beneficial to both parties if you are prepared.

4. Dress for Success :

It is important to know what to wear to an interview and to be well-groomed. Whether you wear a suit or something less formal depends on the company culture and the position you are seeking.

5. Arrive on Time for the Interview :

Never arrive late to an interview. Allow extra time to arrive early in the vicinity, allowing for factors like getting lost. Enter the building 10 to 15 minutes before the interview.

6. Show Enthusiasm :

A firm handshake and plenty of eye contact demonstrate confidence. Speak distinctly in a confident voice, even though you may feel shaky. (Social Distancing - Not advised at the moment)

7. Make Good First Impressions :

Effective forms of body language: smiling, eye contact, solid posture, active listening, nodding.

While the content of your interview responses is paramount, poor body language can be a distraction at best or a reason not to hire you at worst.

8. Listen First, Answer Second :

Listen carefully to what they say and wait until they have finished, and you’ll be able to give the best answer.

9. Be Honest :

Never lie in a job interview. It’s very easy to get caught out.(Honesty is always the best policy)

10. Ask Questions :

Many interviewees don’t ask questions and miss the opportunity to find out valuable information. (Plan your questions in advance - maybe have them in front of you)

Note: At the end of the interview thank the interviewer for taking the time to interview you.
