Thoughts on US Open and working through challenges.

Last week my friend mentioned how much she was enjoying watching the US Open ---- and reminded me.

Growing up in Kingston, NY, the one thing we did at the end of every summer was spend a day at the US Open. The best players, competing in the sport they loved.   I never thought about where they stayed, how they commuted to the stadium or how they had to prepare mentally and physically to compete “on the road”.

A few years ago, while commuting to a client in the Grand Central area during the time of the open, I noticed many of the young players staying in various hotels in Manhattan, commuting on the 7 train with all of their equipment during rush hour and it started me thinking……the athletes are dealing with business travel and either way, it is not as glamorous as people expect. In the moment we need to focus on execution, make the best away from home, trust infrastructure, and adapt to the unexpected.

As much as we want to believe in the “easy” success stories, everything takes work – passion, dedication, and working through the challenges.  This was just a reminder to me – each road we choose then has multiple paths, choices, outcomes, etc. No outcome is right or wrong, each option is another opportunity….go for it, do not look back.
