Technology and Change:
Over the years in my journey as an entrepreneur, I have come to know this truth. At least in my small setting. All men (I use the term quite loosely here) know the value of Technology but that knowledge is yet to quicken their steps to actual adoption and implementation save but a few.
I have sought to explore what the reasons are behind this and although I am yet to fully know, I dare say that the root is in what I call "value on outcome over process" I realize, that though there is the understanding of the transformation that an application so simple can give to a company, there is also the "let me see it happen first syndrome". So a prospective user wants to enjoy the outcome that stems from the use of technology without actually needing to go through the whole process of purchasing, installation and implementation. It's like reaping the harvest without actually going through the whole planting phase. This being the mindset, prospective clients have no qualms at all asking you to offer your services for free, milking you off all the assistance you can be, then pat you on the back and say "wow this thing is actually good".
Question is, why the hesitancy to do the work in this case the needed investment, in order to reap the fruits of it? can we then claim to know the value of the very thing we fail to invest in? because if we truly did know the value, would we not then commit to its success?
Philip Green once said: "Good, bad or indifferent, if you are not investing in new technology, you are going to be left behind".
Ask your self do you really know the value of relevant technology in your field, and are you ready to cause the right change your business need with that technology.
