The Systemic Data Ethics Navigator
Navigate the ongoing journey towards a deeply embedded data ethics culture by identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses.
Data Ethics is not just about data. "Ethical" data within an unethical context is still unethical. To really develop ethics in data and AI, we need the system to be ethical. Evolving a system is never easy, and it can only be achieved with small steps and feedback. We've built this little tool to help navigate the journey.
Download a printable version and get your team to vote, or try the online version at http://systemicDataEthics.com . It doesn't take too long either way, and the insights are valuable.
The process supports the more technical aspects of data ethics by providing a high level view of the context. It can very quickly focus a team the topics that matter most, and get you to the meaty discussions fast.
In creating this one of the most important aspects has been to ensure that the impact of poor leadership is easy to highlight. Technical teams can very quickly feel that they are not allowed to mention that so much of their work is undermined by leaders with a different agenda. I hope that a little external influence can make it a little easier to address the structural issues of data ethics.
(We'd love to work with any teams to give this tool a try, drop me a line and we would very happily facilitate a discussion with your team as to what this all means and what could be done about it.)
