Surviving in Bangkit by Implementing 5 Ways of Adaptability

It's been two months since I became a Bangkit Academy 2023 Cohort and this two month's journey was so challenging. So many things in Bangkit that I faced for the first time. From there, I realized that to survive in a new environment we as individuals need to have good adaptability. There are 5 ways of adaptability that I have tried to implement during this Bangkit program and how they impacted my Bangkit journey. 

1. Ways of Interacting

Bangkit Academy 2023 Cohorts are coming from different universities and also different backgrounds, thus the way I interact with them should be adapted to their communication style, culture, and their personality. Bangkit also encourages the students to communicate with each other using English which isn't my native language. That situation made me afraid and not confident to get communication with them since I am not from an IT background and I feel unsure of my ability in communicating in English. But, I realized that if I am not building a relationship with them, I will have a hard time surviving in this program, especially in the Capstone project. Moreover, I might be missing the opportunity to be able to learn from people who have more experience in the IT field, such as the mentor, the instructor, or even the fellow students cohort. Therefore, I tried to take those advantages by connecting with my friends in the same study group as me and being more active in the sessions provided by Bangkit. 

2. Ways of Achieving

It is important to set clear goals and expectations when joining this program. It will help us to keep our motivation along this journey. In order to achieve my goals, I need for being disciplined with my schedule to learn and also do the task according to project requirements. 

3. Ways of Learning

Bangkit has provided many resources and events for students learn, such as ILT Sessions, Guest Speaker Sessions, Weekly Consultation, and etc. Those events help me to get more understanding with the material in this program besides from the main learning resources in Coursera. 

4. Ways of Working

As I have mentioned before, Bangkit Students came from different background. Thus, they definitely have their own culture and approach in working, and so do I. To make effective collaboration and communication, I have to be able adapt to the differences that exist. 

5. Ways of Thinking

As a student who didn't have IT background, making code for programming, studying machine learning algorithms, and using machine learning tools is a challenge for me. It's not uncommon for me to feel overwhelmed to understand and master the course at the first time. Thus, I embrace it with a growth mindset. I always remind myself not to be so hard and keep learning since everything can't be understood instantly. Just be consistent and don't give up when difficulties come. 

By implementing those 5 ways of adaptability, I am sure I can be survived and also thrived in Bangkit Academy 2023 Program. This also will help me to improve myself to be the best version in life!
