Stop Waiting for Confidence... Do This Instead

TL;DR: Confidence isn’t something you wait for... it’s something you build. Here’s how I stopped waiting to “feel ready” and started taking action anyway.

For the longest time, I used to believe confidence was a prerequisite for action.

That if I just waited long enough, I’d magically wake up one day ready to take risks, speak up, and put myself out there.

Spoiler alert: That day never came.

One of my biggest wake-up calls happened when I was offered a leadership opportunity.

My first thought?

I’m not ready.

There are people way more qualified than me.

So I nearly turned it down.

But then I asked myself: If I were already confident, what would I do?

The answer? I’d say yes and figure it out along the way.

That’s when it clicked, confidence doesn’t come first. Action does.

Here’s what actually builds confidence:

1️⃣ Doing the scary thing before you feel ready.

Confidence isn’t built in your head - it’s built in the doing. You don’t need to feel fearless to act; you just need to act despite the fear.

2️⃣ Collecting “proof” that you’re capable.

Every time you step outside your comfort zone and survive (because you will), you teach your brain: Hey, I can handle this. Confidence is just accumulated evidence that you’re more capable than you thought.

3️⃣ Focusing on growth, not perfection.

Confidence isn’t about knowing everything - it’s about trusting yourself to learn. Perfection isn’t required; progress is.

So, what can YOU do?

✅ Stop waiting for confidence to show up - go first.

✅ Take one small action this week that feels just outside your comfort zone.

✅ Remind yourself: Nobody is 100% ready when they start. But the ones who succeed are the ones who start anyway.

Your challenge for the week:

Identify one thing you’ve been holding back on because you don’t “feel ready.”

Take the first step today.

Then post a comment or DM me and share with me what you did.

Let’s level up, Ado

Yes! Such a great reminder that confidence is something we build, not something we have to wait for. Something I often share with clients is that the language we use and the pictures we paint in our minds really shape how confident we feel. That flutter in the tummy? It’s easy to label it as fear—but it’s also how excitement feels. Same sensation, different story. And you’re right—motivation doesn’t always knock either, but action invites it in 🙌 When confidence wobbles, it’s an exciting opportunity to uncover where those patterns began. We can reframe them and lay down new, more empowering ones. Thank you, neuroplasticity! 🙌 Thanks for such an empowering message!

Couldn’t have said it better, Adrian. Confidence grows when you take the risk and realise you didn’t crumble. That quiet pride that shows up afterwards? That’s what keeps you going.

Yep, courage first, confidence later. Like doing karaoke before you're good—just louder and with more heart.

We’re scared of looking like we don’t know what we’re doing. Scared of rejection. So we wait… hoping the fear will fade. Meanwhile in reality: Waiting feeds the fear. Doing kills it. 💥
