Stop treating OpenClaw like a chatbot.
I keep seeing people make the same errors with agent systems... They install something like OpenClaw… …and then use it like it’s ChatGPT with a different UI.
Ask something. Wait for an answer. Hope it’s good.... That’s not what this is.
OpenClaw isn’t a chatbot. It’s an operator layer... or more simply its your assistant...
And if you don’t change how you work… you’ll get the same average outputs, just wrapped in more complexity... I’ve been running this on a local machine, pushing it through real workflows… and...
Here’s what makes the difference...
1. Don’t ask it to answer. Ask it to execute.
If you’re still prompting like: “Explain…” “Write…” You’re underusing it... With OpenClaw, the shift is:
“Break this into tasks. Execute. Return results.”
You’re not looking for responses. You’re looking for work completed.
2. Stop thinking prompts. Start thinking roles.
Chatbots respond... Agents operate.
So instead of refining a single prompt… you define roles:
And let the system move between them.... That’s where things happen...
3. Replace prompt chains with orchestration
The “3 prompt loop” still works… but it’s primitive here.
In OpenClaw, this becomes:
Same idea… but now it runs without you babysitting every step...
4. Context isn’t what you think it is
In chatbot land, context = tokens... In agent systems, context = state + memory + files... If you’re still pasting blocks of text into prompts… don't...

The power comes from:
That’s your real context layer.
5. Guardrails aren’t optional anymore
With a chatbot, a bad prompt gives you a bad answer... With an agent… a bad instruction can trigger bad actions.
So you need:
Otherwise you’re scaling risk.
6. Always test the system before the task
This one is interesting...
Before running anything complex, I check:
Because when agent systems fail… they don’t fail cleanly.... They drift.
Lastly
Most people are still thinking: “How do I get better answers from AI?”
the question is: “How do I get this systems to my work for me?”
OpenClaw on itrs own wont make you faster by default.... It gives you the ability to build something that is.
If you’re using agent systems already... How the prompting… or are you operating?

Great post. Have you tried Hermes? If so, thoughts?
