"Start with Why"
I highly recommend reading this exceptional book by Simon Sinek. "Start with Why" changed how I approach my job, by forcing me to stop focusing on outcomes and start focusing on purpose, as the first step of any project, initiative, or discussion I am leading, or a part of. It has made me more productive, generating better, more successful outcomes.
“They don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”
This doesn't just pertain to external customers. As a Leader, understanding this key concept can help change your approach to how you lead positive change and your level of positive influence within your organization. (The concept applies to life outside work, as well).
It applies to how we drive engagement with our employees, as well.
"Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them. People are either motivated or they are not. Unless you give motivated people something to believe in, something bigger than their job to work toward, they will motivate themselves to find a new job and you’ll be stuck with whoever’s left."
"Companies with a strong sense of Why are able to inspire their employees. It can change your view of your job. ….When people inside the company know WHY they come to work, people outside the company are vastly more likely to understand WHY the company is special. In these organizations, from the management on down, no one sees themselves as any more or less than anyone else. They all need each other."
Inspire people to do the things that inspire them and together we can change the world.”
If we spend more time focusing on the above concepts, we will all be more inspired, engaged & successful.
