A Solution to The Kneeling Protest
A Solution to The Kneeling Protest
Typically, I approach things from a scientific standpoint and I try to understand things in a broader perspective but I think there is a solution that seems like it would be amicable regarding the kneeling protests in the NFL. First I'd like to talk about the viewpoints people have on the subject.
There are generally three viewpoints: people that are offended, people that feel it's okay to peacefully protest, and people that don't care either way.
This issue is somewhat of a conundrum because of our constitutional right allows us to peacefully protest, but shouldn't be done in a public forum such as at an NFL game? Should this protest be during the national anthem? Is there a better way to approach this?
In speaking with a lot of people I think there is an amicable solution: protest before the national anthem or after the national anthem but not during the national anthem. I would encourage the NFL and any professional athlete to understand and If you're offending one third of the country, you are sending the wrong message, or that message is being lost in the controversy. The other topic I think is important is for the people who are engaging in such protest to be sure and put some skin in the game, go to Washington DC with your talking points and speak with legislators. , participate inside outside of your job that helps educate people about racism, and police brutality. It's very important to understand the taking knee at the wrong time sends the wrong message, and it is truly the easy part. Actively participating outside of our occupations seems to have more value.
I hope this makes sense, and I pray that nobody feels that I'm chastising or criticizing either side. I absolutely respect our flag and our country which is why I respect our First Amendment right to protest. I think when we come across a conundrum such as this, if we would just listen to each other and understand each other we could find a better solution for all sides involved.

The sad thing is that protests only work when they are on the world stage. My opinion, going to Washington DC works when legislators listen or support you or need your support to make the joint concern relevant . The black fists at the Olympic games worked or at least helped because the US government and their support of nonequal rights, contrary to the story they told the world, was exposed for everyone to see which forced them to step up to the plate or change the words of the anthem. Silent protest and nonviolent protest is respectful, though those actually doing the protesting are met with violence and then condemned for protecting themselves and arrested for fighting back. To kneel is ok for praying and who's to say those kneeling aren't praying for the lives lost, like our military. Those burning and degrading our flag have the right to do so: those who see the confederate flag as more important than the flag thats suppose to represent our nation (though it represents our nation divided and the governments support of slavery) is ok. The issue isn't protest or kneeling, it's that the entire world sees it, and they see its nonviolent. The issue is why do it in a place that the media exposes it for everyone to see?
