Software Developer at NWSC
In my quest to look for a job I always found it hard to meet the job requirements because I was lacking in my skillset. I had a passion for technology but after my graduation with a Computer Science degree, I realized I had no area of specialization in terms of skills. I kept on missing out on opportunities and had to figure out a possible solution.
I contacted Refactory Academy to find out about any available tech opportunities they could offer. I learned about Refactory Academy in 2018 during a three-day workshop they held at Mbarara University where I was a student. I was informed of how they could train individuals from both tech and non-tech backgrounds into software developers within eight months. I was also amazed by the success stories of the different alumni who had been there before and decided to give it a shot as well.
When I joined Refactory Academy, I gained insight into what it means to be a software developer. I enjoyed the hands-on training by the facilitators, mentorship from senior developers, coaching sessions, the paid internship, and the various social networking events with industrial experts they organized.

I managed to learn what separated the best developers from the rest with new concepts like design patterns, SOLID principles, and leadership skills. The environment at Refactory pushed me to the limits and made me realize the potential I hadn’t exploited.
Towards the completion of my internship, the placement officer kept on providing job opportunities from different potential employers, and after my graduation in October 2022 with a Certificate of Software Engineering, I joined Marasa Africa Lodges as an IT Support Officer for almost three months and later joined National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) as a developer in June 2023.
I would say my experience with the Refactory community was worth it and I would still highly recommend any aspiring developer to join them
