Six Sigma Tools and Methodologies & Templates (Workbook Link at the End)
Shorn of embellishments, as a student, my journey and struggle towards attaining the ‘picture-perfect’ scores has been nothing short of miraculous - one which surprises me till now, when at this age I witness how the scales have shifted from judging a person on the basis of a few numbers coded to your personality, to dealing with real life complex situations based on the professional skills and competence acquired through persistent hard work, perseverance and commitment to the profession over a period of time.
It is imperative to mention that this journey involves a certain transition, albeit from a humanist perspective, wherein I managed to evolve from an introverted backbencher, to a consultant managing my chores in one of the fastest developing economy in the world.
Today, after 4 years of post-qualification experience in the financial capital of India and subsequently completing my MBA, I am yet again in the middle of another transition as I look for opportunities to utilize my experience and skill-sets to create sustainable business solutions. Although such transition period is usually construed as struggle; with a slight shift in perspective, such as transition can also present the opportunity to augment ourselves in anyway we desire.
Because I firmly believe that it is imperative to see beyond what the naked eye sees and delve deeper into the subjects to inculcate a multi-disciplinary approach to solving problems, I decided to take an extensive Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB) Training course. The course not only offered insights into data collection, measurement and analysis, but also illustrated the need for a synchronized ‘Data – Information - Knowledge – Wisdom’ connection, which is pertinent to growth and evolution for both professionals and organizations alike.
Further, because I believe that knowledge 1) always gains; 2) like happiness, grows when shared; and 3) wasted if hoarded, I decided to compile key ASQ recommended methodologies in the form of an excel workbook (Refer Excel for templates). The SS concepts and tools are not just relevant to SS project teams but also to other professionals such as data analysts, process improvement and optimization consultants, internal auditors, quality control managers, strategy consultants, and project managers.
A number of such analysis can be easily concluded using SigmaXL tool (Listed in remarks column. Refer Excel workbook attached). The workbooks together covers all five DMAIC phases - Design, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control.
Cheers!
