Should you consider moving to DevOps? Is it Secure?

With evolving technologies we wonder whether we need to follow the latest trends or work on optimising the current state of our IT. While this decision is mainly dependent on the business case and current state of your IT, DevOps obviously has its own advantage to be given a fair thought.

If your IT operations are already based on cloud, it is worth considering DevOps. The benefits of DevOps in the long term is far more beneficial as it not only reduces your Capex and Opex costs but reduces security risks if implemented correctly. It will also enhance your brand reputation for being on top of market.

How does DevOps create a security culture?

  • DevOps is a collaboration between the Development, Technology and Security Team. It promotes a change of culture rather than only incorporating a new set of tools
  • It emphasises on automation which can be leveraged to enforce security controls at every step of the process and also track it
  • Integrating static analysis in deployment pipelines ensures that we identify issues at the earlier stages of development rather than at the end. This in essence reduces the cost associated with security testing, vulnerability fixing and security breaches
  • Ability to track the data, through its life cycle and control access to these data ensures you are compliant with all the relevant standards and legal requirements
  • DevSecOps enables active security audit and penetration testing with agile development process
  • Integrated continuous security enables easy scaling which changing business case and IT architecture without worrying about the falling behind on security
  • With DevOps moving to Infrastructure as Code has its own benefits. Contrary to popular misconceptions that Cloud operations are a big investment and quite vague in terms of security, it is in fact very cost efficient and gives an organisation complete visibility & control over its resources and data

With these multitude of advantages organisations looking to upgrade their technologies and optimise the IT culture might definitely want to consider adopting DevOps.
