Should Tesla outsource manufacturing?
Elon Musk is a visionary who has propelled Tesla to its current status, defining the electric car segment with innovative designs. However, Tesla now faces challenges in meeting the high demand for its cars. Producing quality vehicles at scale is no small feat, and traditional car manufacturers, with their perfected processes, have a competitive edge. Additionally, other manufacturers are closing the gap in design and battery range.
Can Tesla learn from Apple? Apple, one of the most innovative companies, leverages its partners to produce iPhones, allowing it to focus on its strengths. This strategy could benefit Tesla as well. The car industry frequently outsources manufacturing and critical component design to suppliers with specialized expertise, accelerating innovation.
In my experience managing a production line for Tata Motors, I understand the complexities of ensuring quality in high-volume production. Tesla has a brief window where loyal supporters will wait for their cars before turning to competitors. Tesla should consider outsourcing manufacturing to focus on its core strengths. Thoughts?
Can I know what advantages Tesla company face for doing the outresource?
I have always wondered that - what kind of a production system have they set up that they can’t reach their goals of 5000 cars a week. ( I think I read this goal somewhere). I truly trust GM will eventually corner this market with Tesla providing all the batteries out of the Gigafactory.
