Security DevCamp // Idea Contest Winners

Security DevCamp // Idea Contest Winners

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Security DevCamp brainstorm and then competed in our Idea Contest. We had a blast, learned a lot together, and minted seven (7) winners. Here are some of the participants:

Finalists

Most Valuable Feedback

GitSecure

Nestor Bonilla

Nestor was a super active participant throughout the event. He spent time exploring the Archipelo platform, providing valuable insights, and putting his whole mind into his idea: a decentralized social graph to help developers demonstrate trustworthiness, security, and diligence.

Article content

Nestor prepared a solid presentation that touched on the core Achipelo platform value proposition. His thoughtful integration of blockchain as a trust mechanism and focus on the developer experience clinched the top spot in this category.

Runner Up

Glitch Spectron

Derrick Wilson-Duncan

With a clear application of Archipelo scanning concepts, Glitch Spectron focuses on the gaming industry's developer workflow. Increasing productivity while coding in Unity means identifying bugs and security issues early in the lifecycle. After trying Archipelo, Derrick outlined a specific moment when scanning is most effective and swiftly presented it.

Article content

Congrats, and thank you for making games better 🙂

Honorable Mention

SoulSync VR

Matthew Carlson

With no real background in security, Matthew internalized every security concept from our presentations and integrated them at a high level with his idea. In a comprehensive presentation, SoulSync uses VR to securely protect privacy.

Article content

We realized that this application has tremendous potential for collaboration with Healium and their new developer API.

Best Concept Prototype

Turing Test

Dave Howard, Erin Pangilnan, Brandon Rutter-Daywater

Perhaps because one of their team members is a professional security engineer, this group tapped into a core Archipelo platform feature: detecting the use of generative AI in the provenance of source code. They explored the idea in detail, creating a prototype that exposed a key flaw in one approach with an excellent presentation. All three teammates were super active participants who gave feedback to the Archipelo team about our system.

Article content

It takes rare talent and teamwork to produce working code within 6 hours—from inception to presentation. Kudos for going the distance.

Best Working Prototype

Sudo Wrapper

Tobias Martin, Evgeniia Buzulukova

Solid foundations in computer science and design produced this solution to a common developer workflow: invoking sudo. This simple and useful solution uses Apple’s Secure Enclave to authenticate sudo commands—without having to type the administrator password. This eliminates mistakes but also protects privacy in a public space. For their pure developer focus, active participation throughout the day and their useful feedback on Archipelo, this boyfriend-girlfriend team brought inspiration to us all.

Article content

Again, it takes real dedication and hard work to bring an idea to life in such a short period of time. This solution solves a real-world problem fast.

Best Presentation

RugPool

Brandon Broussard

This one-man, non-developer team created true resonance with the audience with an idea that solves a personal problem: identifying and stopping crypto scams. With the application of machine learning and simple analysis of common scams, RugPool is a useful idea with many potential partners for implementation.

Article content

Brandon gave an excellent presentation with a compelling design that told the full story, from problem to solution. He was an active participant throughout the day, and the judges voted unanimously to support him.

Grand Prize

Best Overall

Cottonmouth

Martin Gregory, Iarann O’Rourke

This is an example of thinking outside the box in the truest sense: using computer vision to detect physical security issues (and workplace inefficiencies) by merely scanning a room. Find stickie notes with passwords written on them, opened doors or windows, items out of place, and more simply with a mobile camera—or better yet, the Apple Vision Pro on the head of a security guard.

With a broad security application, this distributed team included a veteran iPadDevCamp alum—no wonder they won.

Article content

Great job, you two! You’ll be receiving one (1) Apple Vision Pro, to explore this idea and take us all into the future.

Conclusion

The organizers, sponsors (Archipelo & Dabl.Club), and our entire team had a great time meeting and working with each of you. Let’s stay connected and bring these ideas to life.

Until next time 😊

Best Regards,
