Generative AI is artificial intelligence that can create new things, such as images, text, Music, 3d models. It does so by learning from one data set and then using what it learned to generate more original content. Other types of AI are designed to perform a specific task, like recognizing objects in photos or answering questions. It is easier to identify a Matisse painting than is to paint Matisse.
Generative AI is used in applications that generate images and video—think Photoshop for machines. It's a powerful tool that allows computers to create new things that are similar to, but not the same as, the things they've learned from. Watch this video to learn more:
A generative adversarial network, or GAN (diagram below), is a machine-learning model made up of two parts: a generative model and a training model. The generative model tries to create new data similar to a training model. In contrast, the training model tries to tell the difference between the real and fake data that the generative model creates. The two models then work together, with the generative model trying to improve and the training model trying to catch it to make the most realistic fake data possible. This is useful for various applications, such as creating new images, text, and synthetic operational data for simulations.
Another way you understand Generative AI is to follow the steps I used to make the Two Turtle Doves.
1) Enter a text prompt into a generative AI tool:
