Scamming the Scammers

Scamming the Scammers

For anyone in business who regularly receives unsolicited spam offering B2B mailing lists I'd like to share my experiences of "Dave Miller" (dave@b2bemailexperts.com) of B2B Mail Experts (http://www.b2bemailexperts.com).

I received an email from him as my company is a member of Oil & Gas UK, offering;

" a list of potential clients and customers with their company name, contact name, job title, phone number, e-mail addresses and much more information as per your requirement."

 All I had to do was provide Industry, Geography & Job Title and B2B Mail Experts would do the rest.

Believing this to be a scam, I asked for a list of decision makers in Balamory, a fictitious town from the children's TV show of the same name.

Imagine my surprise when Mr Miller offered to supply a list 11,209 "decision makers" for a mere $2100USD.

Once I challenged Mr. Miller on this he claimed to have known all along that Balamory was a fictitious town and that his "team" were pulling together the list of decision makers from Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, the location where the show was filmed.  All well and good, apart from one thing.  The population of Tobermory is a mere 980.

As a company specialising in Cyber Security we are used to this type of scam.  Thanks to Mr. Miller we now have another case study to share amongst our clients.

Stay safe!
