Role Based Learning & Hiring is the Future

Role Based Learning & Hiring is the Future

A big question to answer in current arena of globalisation is " What Knowledge is of most worth? " It is quite noticeable how the current Indian Education system is transitioning from Objective Based learning to Outcome Based Learning and is still under the pressure of understanding & adopting Role Based Learning Model.

How are we going to address the current Skill gap which says 70% of the Industry workforce is not skilled enough to work for the sector.

It is sad to see that no curriculum aligns itself towards these NEW AGE SKILLS like Java, DBMS, Web Development, Digital Marketing, Database Management, Mobile App, Hadoop, Cyber Security, SAP, CAD and few others which are in demand. India has huge opportunity and potential to meet this global demand with respect to the amount of workforce produced every year but also is dominated by a big skill gap. There is a big need for students to work on Skills like Reading, Writing, Oral Communication, Decision Making / Critical Thinking which is a primary need for any entry level role.

Corporates are more focused towards looking at a workforce which is more advers skilled. Our Academic focus need a big time transition from Quantitative Skilling towards Qualitative Skilling.

Influence of Digital Technology, Rapidly growing Innovative Start up System, Changing Business Models, ,Government's Digital India Initiatives and the Consumer Economy have impacted the current growth trends of the IT/ITes/Core and other Industries.

As per NASSCOM, Karnataka | Delhi | Maharashtra | Tamil Nadu and AP constitute about 86% of the total jobs created. Karnataka accounts for Highest Demand of Talent while UP for Highest Talent Supply. Two disruptions expected in India are: Fresh Skilling of Workforce entering Industry and Up Skilling of existing workforce within the industry. 0.5-0.6 mn new jobs being created will need fresh skilling initiatives, while 3.7 mn would require re skilling or up skilling for new digital technologies to maintain a competitive edge.

The gap between talent and demand supply is unfolding year on year due to shrinking incremental hiring within the industry. There is lot of new creation of jobs in the market which do not have any explicit education as an eligibility constraint. In this situation, one of the biggest challenges to overcome is our Academic Curriculum for Entry level Talent Pool. Our Curriculum doesn't holds capacity to change with the pace of Industry Transition. With the gap in delivery of talent pool also holds a big gap of educators/faculties who fail to stand on par with industry standards and neither upgrade at the same pace due to academic restrictions and no proper performance mapping structures in place. We need more initiatives from the government bodies to understand this gap than initiating programs towards end learning outcomes.

We are almost on the verge of killing the methodology of Objective based learning and leaning more towards Skill based learning due to aggressive market transition and fast pace need of skilled experts which I feel is a positive transition for a progressive future as per the current industry hiring standings.

Quality Content of an education system will always be a point of discussion and argument. There is a big time need to realign the current Objective Based Education System to Skill Based Learning Model which is Interest Based - Industry Role Specific and prepares the young talent pool exactly as per the industry standards without leaving any open ended quality gap between talent demand and supply.
