Reflection and Introspection
Whatever happened to reflection and introspection? These two activities usher individuals into a more mature way of thinking, regarding the interaction with other individuals. Today, many are yelling, but no one is listening. I listened to others after I talked and listened to myself. Answering such questions as: Who am I? What kind of person do I want to become? How do I want to interact with others, those that I don't agree with? Individuals are not spending enough time engaged in these activities. Something grips those who are yelling with fear of the unknown, therefore not searching for solutions. As we reflect and introspect, we understand our desired place in the world. And with this understanding comes a sense of peace that allows us to feel comfortable in our skin. This comfort inspires confidence in ourselves that allows us to stay calm when we are talking with people that have different opinions from our own. We are no longer reacting, but responding. I believe if each one of us engaged in more reflection and introspection, there would be much less yelling and would cause better solutions. What do you think?
