Program your Brain...

“Programming” is a word that we all know well. When we think of it, our thoughts go to programming a computer or programming the instrumentation that might operate machinery, but how often do we think about programming our brains? In many ways, the brain operates like a computer. What we program into it are the results that come from it.

When we say, “Oh, I could never do that”, we have programmed the brain accordingly. The mind will be sure that we never can do that because the programming is in place. Focusing on negativity goes back to our nature of doing what we must do to stay and be safe. Not trusting, not believing is safer than trusting and believing, therefore it is human nature to not believe and to not trust. It is our mind’s way of being safe. Exposing ourselves to new adventures is a scary avenue to approach. It’s easier and safer to convince the mind that it can’t be done. We should not believe and trust everyone and everything, but the only way to success is through belief in what we can do.

Positive self-encouragement, the reaffirmation of belief is what programs the brain. If we believe in something strong enough, we have programmed our brain, and our actions will carry out the programming to take us in that direction.

Take some time alone to review your programming. When we are not paying attention, others can program us in the wrong direction, but for each of us to be in control of our own brain, the programming needs to come from within.

When a programmer creates a new version of software, he doesn’t just sit down and randomly program something in. He takes the existing software, reviews it and looks for where it can perform better. Self-evaluation does the same thing. Where are the improvements needed? What can you write into the new version that are better than what exists? Identify what they are and do the programming. Be a new version. If this requires change, the change will not be instant. True change is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Write the program so that it will work over time. That’s the only way that it can work.

Program your brain by saying, “I can do that.” Believe it, update the program and it will happen.
