Processes vs. Functions

  • Processes: Are distinct measurable activities with one (or more) inputs that are structured to accomplish a particular objective.
  • Each process has four characteristics: Trigger, Activity, Dependency, and Sequence.
  • Functions: Are logical sets or grouping of organizational units.
  • Logical groupings that are used to perform a process or activity within a process.
  • Functions: are responsible for certain outcomes.
  • Examples: Service disk or Help disk stuff, Technical Management Group, Application Management Team, IT/IS Operations.
