PROBLEM SOLVING MINDSET

PROBLEM SOLVING MINDSET

Some business owners have it, some don't.

Business owners either look at problems as income or expense or nuisances. I asked one in a meeting, "Why are you making changes to your business ?" His reply, "I am not making any changes to my business." My response was there are three people that might be interested in that answer. He posed, "Who would that be?" "Your wife, your employees & your customers", was my reply. I explained:

  • Your wife - cares about your time & money
  • Your employees - care about their time & money
  • Your customers - care about their time & money
  1. Customers want to do business with companies that are pursuing excellence, or they will find another service provider.
  2. Employees want to represent excellence to the companies they are serving or they will find another employer.
  3. Wife wants to spend more time with you and more of your money, or she might try to find another husband.

MINDSET is everything.

Some CEO's & Business Owners have the mindset to just block out all problems and keep their head down working. They never solve anything and generally can only work alone. Another group will try to solve everything and are constantly getting stuck on minutiae, resolving nothing with great intention. While the last group understands that solving problems means more customers, more employees & more profit, resulting in more problems. Never say, "I am not changing anything in my business."

THE RIGHT QUESTION

What should I be changing in my business today, this month & this year ?

  • If solved problems don't increase cash flow, "DON'T SOLVE IT!"
  • If solved problems don't increase margin, "DON'T SOLVE IT!"

Problems solved always, always, always, move you & your organization closer to MATURITY, exposing new opportunities to improve, or problems. Imagine walking up an endless flight of steps. Every 12 steps has a new landing area. You can't see and understand above the level you are working.

TRUE PROBLEMS are fungible and create a profit for your company and life! Too many people address issues that can't bear fruit. When there is no harvest, there is only complacency. Think about the parties that vineyards and others have thrown at the harvest to motivate them to the next season. It is essential to celebrate every success!

Everyone learns early in their business to classify activity in priorities of A, B or C. Never do a "C". There must be a framework associated with the letters. All problems are not equal. Some are :

  1. Foundational - You can't get through tomorrow, nor achieve your revenue budget.
  2. Fundamental - You can't get through the month, nor achieve your cost budget.
  3. Functional - You can't deliver your KPI's or SLA's to your customers.

Contact me if you want to discuss further. Like if you agree.

Is your mindset that every priority problem solved helps you reach your goals & objectives ? Yes, you have the right mindset.
