Practical Steps to Increasing Self-Confidence

Practical Steps to Increasing Self-Confidence

Has anyone ever told you to be more confident or believe in yourself more?

In response, did you ever find yourself wondering “how am I supposed to do that?”

If you can relate to this scenario, you are not alone.

I’m excited to share this week’s featured episode “Building Self-Belief with David Hulman”. Based in the UK, David Hulman, Self-Belief Chief Founder is an author, life/career coach and the host of the Self-Belief Chief podcast.

His passion stemmed from his own desire to understand the practical steps to building confidence, something many people desire while also being unsure of exactly what to do.

David started by sharing his six sources of self-belief: a list designed to help you determine where you have (or lack) confidence in various contexts.

The first source: clarity.

According to David, clarity brings us closer to the things that we want. Failure to have a clear vision is a major reason why most people don’t take the first step towards their intended goal. If you are vague in what you are asking for, your results will be vague as well.

Think of a situation where you appear to be stuck or struggling. How clear are you on where you want to go? Have you considered the who, what, when, where, why, and how?

If you’re facing a difficult conversation, have you made time to consider who you’re talking to and the specifics of your ideal outcome?

Clarity acts as a barrier to action, and action is critical to self-belief.

David continues to share five more sources of self-confidence, including a few you may be overlooking.

Listen to the episode to learn more and, as always, let me know what you think!

Gems: Telling someone to have confidence is not nearly as effective as equipping them with strategies or actions to improve their confidence in a specific area. There are six facets of the self belief framework: clarity, focus, pain, energy, momentum and growth. Clarity breeds confidence. Ask WH questions to remove ambiguity. Focus is important for striking the target, but then there's pain. At the end of the pain there's learning. Another vital ingredient is energy because the right type drives motion. Momentum keeps us going and growth takes us to the next level. If you can remember the why and the how your more than 80% there.
