A point for "Reflection"..

It is safe to assume that very little of what we call “thinking” is really thinking.

Rather, we have mechanistic responses, reactions and opinions stored within our “files” that we access automaticly. We have little awareness over what we retrieve from this database in various situations. Like breathing, it happens without thinking under the shadow of our prejudices.

These files represent the past. The influence of the past over our present and future thinking can be seriously limiting. We live too much on what has been, rather than what can be. Most of the time we miss a lot of opportunities because we are unable to notice them. We can notice something when we pay attention.

Reflection is a great way to enhance the depth of our thinking and focus attention to possibilities. It is the art of pondering on our virtues, mistakes and experiences to learn a lesson and develop. It’s a way of self-coaching where we ask ourselves open-ended questions such as  “What do I want?” “What gets in the way?” "What can help me to achieve it?"..Hence, we focus on our own vision and actions which we can change and control rather than losing time and energy by blaming or judging others. We focus on future opportunities and become more creative and imaginative.

We usually “think” while we are doing something else, such as driving, showering, cooking etc.. Reflection requires quality time like meditating. Being in nature like a lakeside or a forest, or a quiet spot in our garden and sitting there to reflect increases our effectiveness. Early morning hours are the best time as this is when our brains perform highest. Even if we cannot come up with a great result then, the brain will not stop working on it and will present us the idea or the solution soon..

Our brain has a huge potential. Teaching it how to think is the best lever to unleash this potential. I can tell you from personal experience that making reflection a daily routine has given me the confidence to cope with most challenging situations. I noticed how resourceful I can be and I started to believe that whatever happens I can find a way by using my brain effectively. I hope it will do the same for you..
