The Plan Prototype Execute Model - A new approach to delivering Improvement, Quickly!
1. Introduction
Improvement is at the heart of all business. Effectively managing Improvement has become a challenge over time as organizations grapple with conflicting priorities and reducing funding. The need for a quick and simple method to deliver Organizational Change and Improvement required.
2. The PPE Model
The PPE Model is 3-step, iterative model for Continuous Improvement and Operational Improvement. The PPE model is an effort to speed-up and simplify the delivery of Improvement assets back to the users of the impacted processes.
The key steps of the PPE model are:
1. Plan
In the Plan Phase we establish the opportunity for the change. This is necessitated by business needs. A plan for organizational Process change/ Change acceleration /Project Plan for the change is created and Signed-off. The key advantages are:
a. "Business-facing" Approach against a "problem-solving" approach.
b. Planning for change made up-front to avoid plan slippages.
c. Predictability of the Change timelines.
d. Proactive approach aimed at identifying the opportunities for improvement
2. Prototype
In the Prototype phase we create a Pilot/Prototype of the proposed development. This is followed Beta Testing and feedback for the pilot/prototype developed. The pilot study is validated and where necessary the pilot is re-run to improve the results to establish the right way forward.
The key advantages are:
a. Planned Piloting and Data capture enhance accuracy and trustworthiness on results
b. Agile re-runs on the pilot/prototype without significant change to the planned timelines
c. Traceability of the timelines and progress
d. Traceability of learnings and model development
3. Execute
In the Execute Phase we prepare Change Implementation and Acceleration Plan. This is followed-up by the Enterprise-wide implementation/ Full-scale Implementation of the plan. The key advantages are:
a. Ensures a "Sure-Win" by eliminating the factor of doubt in the cycle
b. Work-products and learnings are approved and accepted by stakeholders
The PPE model focusses on customer focus and Business-facing actions. This then drives predictability of timelines and clarity of results.
This is followed by piloting and data capture and repeated trials/prototypes for implementation. A successful Prototype is then selected and agreed for Execution.
This is followed by a Full-scale deployment/roll-out of the change.
The PPE model flows as in the illustration below:
Sounds great! Thks ShreeRam :-)
Hello! Question: is this another option for Agile organizations or DevOps environments? or what are you proposing?
