Context: On the suggestion of my valuable Clients & Colleagues within the IT industry, it is my humble attempt to embark on a journey of short Brief & Quote series, on varied topics across the Industry. I hope it allows connecting my Personal thoughts with the IT community, and initiate an intellectual dialogue for the wider IT good (hopefully!). IT Paradigm Shift with Digital Data
In the past, Digital Data (DD), or simply Data, has been treated as a 2nd class citizen within the IT ecosystem, although in this decade it is gaining its rightful importance, and not being taken for granted. Is it happening only because the World is currently facing pressing issues around Security of DD, or is it because DD is changing its role within the IT landscape whilst impacting the fabric of Human Society?
If we simplify IT to its most basic RGB type elements, there have always been 3 fundamental pieces, i.e. Hardware, Software, and DD, which I will refer as the “IT-TRIO”. From this trio, the past, current, and future of IT evolves. An interesting observation I likely predict is, that as we move forward in the next few decades, the Hardware and Software may become the 2nd class citizen to DD within the IT ecosystem, whilst the “IT-TRIO” continues to work together for success. Henceforth DD will play a key role in providing direction to IT & Human Ecosystems. A new field of study called ‘DD Driven IT’ may become greenfield, pushing the edges of innovations with AI and other intelligent data processing technologies, converting all sorts of DD into real-time Knowledge (Data ==> Information ==> Knowledge).
I have always believed that “Experience and Knowledge shapes a Human”, and Experience/Knowledge is nothing but data stored within human brain and processed as electrical bio signals, so as an analogy “DD is now on the verge of shaping IT and making it Intelligent”. Therefore, it is important to take responsibility of DD (human or machine generated), and make it secure maintaining quality & integrity, or otherwise we may unintentionally end up making undesired decisions, using intelligence from corrupted DD. I believe, the world of IT Ecosystem has started its next generation evolution, by beginning to enter the Human Ecosystem!

Interesting article Ashish. Agreed that Digital Data or Data is becoming a far hotter topic amongst organisations and in particular since traditional localised skills around marketing, sales and product engagement adapt to a connected environment. In many cases this can be driven by competitors demonstrating data driven advantage to improve cost to income ratios which trigger copycats in the industry. It will be interesting to see how commoditised this data intelligence becomes as many organisations currently seek to ensure that this intelligence is developed in house but we are now seeing startups offering this capability to enable a faster lift up the curve.
