Outdated Syllabus
With number of universities existing in India, the ratio of the number of universities that get listed in the top universities of the world is very low. And, students mostly prefer to study abroad and do not return very often because India does not provide the same kind of quality in education or work. One of the main reasons for all this is outdated syllabus. Each day, some invention or addition is happening to the knowledge known to man. But the syllabus in educational institutions, be it schools or colleges, is outdated and not as per trends. Education system in India is based on routine and repetition of the same concepts which has deprived students of logical and critical thinking. Since outdated concepts are repeatedly taught by teachers and the same is learnt by students every year, the creativity of both educators and learners is becoming stagnant. Excessive importance is given to memorizing contents in books and scoring marks in theoretical exams. All these have made learners to move to short term online courses that give them variety and novelty in courses.
In order to ensure that students in India receive high quality of education, syllabuses must be revised periodically by a panel. The panel must include both experienced and young educators, industry experts and students. To ensure that this happens, the education board can make this process mandatory and even conduct regular inspections of syllabuses. Universities and colleges can include electives that are based on current trends in the market and liberty to choose interdepartmental subjects must also be given to students. Such possibilities will encourage learners to keep learning for life and also retain the talent base of India in India itself.
