Ordering Product Road Map
Product road map should be ordered not just prioritized. Prioritization is one way to order a product road map. This is an imperative to accomplish one of the important goals of a product manager - optimize ROI or value of the product to the clients. Though we need to adopt to our own circumstances, there are loads of different ways to prioritize roadmap. Here I will attempt to record my firsthand experience in introducing analytics based prioritization to our road map
After collecting data from filed analysts, customer representatives, and CSM's, I stratified the list of all pain points that had common themes. To optimize the ROI to our users I order all these pain points using a common research technique – gap analysis. With this, I was able to dig deep into the nature of the pain points. It is pretty common knowledge that our users will compare their experiences with some set of expectations. So, I circled back to our B2B clients regarding these pain points and collected data points that showed us the issues that are important to our clients. These discussions naturally moved us to find out how satisfied they were with the current solutions for these important issues.
Because of this research, I produced below data visualization in Microsoft Power BI and integrated it to our team’s Microsoft SharePoint.
I'm passionate about creating products that make our world a better place. This project - the research, the analytically driven road map process, and the visualization - created a better world for us here. At the end of the day, all good road maps should lead to Rome:).
Looking at this visualization, it became pretty clear how to order our road map.
