OpenProject Release 15.1: Custom fields type hierarchy and more
Dear OpenProject Community,
We are very excited to announce another new release today. OpenProject 15.1 brings several new features and improvements designed to enhance your project management experience even further.
The highlight of this release is the new custom field of type hierarchy. This new Enterprise add-on allows you to structure data further into multi-level selections within custom fields, making it easier to categorize and manage complex information in work packages. Whether you’re organizing locations, structuring teams, or categorizing products, this feature adds clarity and precision to your workflows.
Another change for 15.1 is the redesign of the Relations tab in work packages. With its modern interface using the Primer design system, you can now select relation types more intuitively and add descriptions to provide additional context. The redesign of the Relations tab now forms a basis for the further development of scheduling in order to enter lag time here. Please note that the ability to create new work packages directly on the Relations tab has been removed due to technical reasons but will be introduced again in the upcoming release. We recommend a quick workaround for this functionality via the embedded work package tables until this functionality will be available again:
Additionally, the Meetings index page has been redesigned to improve navigation and usability, making it easier to manage and view your meetings at a glance. There are more exciting updates on our Roadmap, such as recurring meetings, which are currently being implemented. We are very much looking forward to releasing these further improvements to our meetings soon.
Other updates in OpenProject 15.1 include manual page breaks in PDF work package exports, allowing you to ensure that important elements like signatures always appear on the correct page.
Zen mode for project lists is now available as well, providing a distraction-free environment for presentations or focusing on your project data.
Explore all new features and improvements in the Release Notes. And if you’re using the Community edition or Enterprise on-premises, be sure to upgrade promptly.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the City of Cologne as well as Deutsche Bahn for sponsoring parts of this release. Your support, alongside the efforts of our amazing Community, helps drive these innovations.
As always, we're keen to hear your thoughts on these new features and changes. If you try them out, let us know what you think, and don't forget to recommend them to others.
Kind regards,
Birthe Lindenthal
Head of Marketing and Communications
