Only you can make it work

Only you can make it work

Tools does make life easier, but it is a means to an end, and cannot be the end itself. I see so many ads on tools that make so many promises and a whole lot of misaligned and unhappy customers that are left frustrated when those promises are not met.

Office 365 helps you collaborate better, Microsoft 365 – safeguard individual privacy with Microsoft Cloud, Get more sales with Sales Navigator, Better customer management with CRM. Technically they are not wrong, but it takes more than tools to achieve better collaboration, data privacy readiness, more sales and better customer management. It takes systematic processes to drive it all, as it involves human behaviour. Is not about the tools, the tools does enable data privacy or driving more sales etc, but it takes systematic processes to deliver success.

Just like a man with a fractured leg was at the doctor getting his cast fixed up. He asked his doctor, “would I be able to run a marathon, after I recover?” the doctor assured him that he will fully recover and be able to do the marathon in no time. Curiously, the doctor asked how long has he been running? To which the man answered, oh no, I have never been a runner, in fact I have not ran a marathon before, but last week I got my first pair of running shoes and they tell me I would be able to finish a marathon with it. I tried and here I am. Chuckle if we may, but that’s what we do. We buy into the tools and hope it will work out.

It never fail to amaze me when I see adverts on fit looking athletes using certain shoes, or famous basketball players branded shoes etc, they did not get fit with those shoes or were they able to play in the NBA because of those shoes. Beauty products, smooth skin, skin whitening .. the models are on the advertisements because they already have white smooth skin. When you buy those products, yes it works but it takes discipline to apply and work at it. Most stop halfway, as they do not see immediate results and switch brands and hope it will work

There’s no short-cut to success, you want great collaboration that will bring about better customer engagement and better decision-making process? You want, more sales generated through new customers acquisition? You want, data privacy readiness so that you will not get into trouble with law? You will need more than Office 365, Sales Navigator or any other tools. You will need a systematic process to complete the equation.

Unless you start taking the next step to build a systematic process around the tools, all you have is just a set of tools. It is like buying each employee a hammer and expect them to be able to build themselves a cabinet. It just does not work.

Need a conversation around any of these processes? Give Virtual Team a call.

Very well articulated David! I’ve been telling my 10yr old that tools and intelligence are not everything. What matters is how one uses them. And then it’s a matter of discipline, consistency and continuous learning and application.

Absolutely right David, get the process and skills in place first, then buy the tools! Tools without process is like a hammer without a nail!
