The One Thing

Unfortunately this isn't a testimonial about the book, as that's one I've not yet read.

No, and I'm sure I'm not on my own with this, when we're faced with challenges we often look the other way, we have that the "grass is greener on the other side" feeling.

I can honestly, say it is isn't and in fact it still needs care and mowing.

Some of us, including myself, may even start to build on those thoughts of the "grass is greener" and begin to work on something new, meanwhile the real problem, the one thing that's triggering all of this remains unresolved.

This is what has been happening with me for the better part of a year.

It has to stop.

Yes I've worked on and in the agency and we've had the best year so far, but there have been times, especially when faced with challenges, I have looked the other way, I have started work on something else, falling into the trap of the "grass is greener".

Yesterday it all came to a head, I sat down and put the cards on the table and asked the question, how important are those shiny things to me? Does it make sense to continue with them or are they distracting you from the real challenge.

I asked do they tie in with my greater vision for the next 3/5 years, I answered no, so ultimately what on earth am I doing? Stop running, and make a stand.

I then asked the same question for how important is the agency that you setup, and have put so much into over the past 5 years?

I concluded that the agency is the one thing that I need to remain focused on, even when times are challenging. Starting something new is not a solution nor a recipe for success.

However I also concluded that if I am to remain focused on the agency I need to do so in a way that see's it as a business, as a separate entity to me, it doesn't define me, or who I am - only I can do that

I shall embrace these challenges, and not run away from them or look the other way. But focus on working through, round or over them.

How do you handle distractions? Do you get distracted?

I'd really love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this post.
