The Next Three Things Agile Program Managers Need to Do to Keep Up With AI.

As the world increasingly uses artificial intelligence (AI), agile project managers will need to develop new skills to effectively manage AI-driven projects. Here are three new skills that agile project managers should master:

Understanding AI technology:

Agile project managers should have a basic understanding of AI technology, its capabilities, and its limitations. This includes knowledge of machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and other AI-related concepts. By understanding AI technology, agile project managers can better identify opportunities for its use and communicate effectively with stakeholders about its potential benefits and risks. Here are a list of interest groups, policy makers and BIPOC platforms that support the advancement of AI.

AI Interest Groups:

  1. IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems
  2. Partnership on AI
  3. AI Now Institute
  4. Future of Life Institute
  5. OpenAI
  6. BlackinAI

AI Policy Makers:

  1. European Commission - High-Level Expert Group on AI
  2. United States White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)
  3. UK Office for Artificial Intelligence
  4. Canadian Institute for Advanced Research - AI and Society Initiative
  5. United Nations - Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

Black Creators Using AI:

  1. Timnit Gebru - Co-founder of Black in AI, AI Ethics Researcher
  2. Kimberly Bryant - Founder of Black Girls Code
  3. Nnenna Nwakanma - Senior Policy Manager at the World Wide Web Foundation and AI for Good Advocate
  4. Ayanna Howard - Roboticist and Founder of Zyrobotics
  5. Dr. Rediet Abebe - Founder of Black in AI, Research Scientist at Cornell University

Data analysis and interpretation:

With the increasing use of AI, project managers will need to have a solid understanding of data analysis and interpretation. This includes the ability to work with large data sets, identify patterns, and draw meaningful insights from data. Agile project managers should also be familiar with the tools and techniques used in data analysis and interpretation, such as statistical analysis, data visualization, and machine learning algorithms.

  1. Coursera: Offers a range of AI courses and specializations from top universities and organizations, including Stanford University, IBM, and Google.
  2. Udacity: Offers nanodegrees and courses in AI, machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision, in collaboration with industry partners like Google and Amazon.
  3. edX: Offers AI courses and programs from top universities like Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley, as well as industry partners like Microsoft.
  4. Kaggle: A platform for data science competitions and machine learning projects, providing access to real-world data sets and a community of AI practitioners.

  • Change management: The use of AI is likely to introduce significant changes in project management processes, team dynamics, and stakeholder engagement. Agile project managers should have strong change management skills, including the ability to identify potential challenges and opportunities associated with AI, communicate effectively with stakeholders about the need for change, and manage resistance to change.

To wrap it all up, agile project managers should master the skills of understanding AI technology, data analysis and interpretation, and change management to effectively manage AI-driven projects.
